This was a student project: a beach house for a retired couple up in the Far North. The site overlooked the Kaitaia harbour, with stunning views and a northern aspect.
The challenge was to provide a ‘bit of flair’ (my client brief) while fitting in with the surrounding beach houses. The clients were very happy with their dwelling, and gave me the keys to the house for whenever I’m in the neighbourhood.
The house is successful in that it has an informal feeling. It encompasses the view as well as catching the sun.
